Indications
- Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
- Relieves pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
- Decreases eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies
Description
- Belongs to the pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
- Chemical name: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2-amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
- Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
- Biological activity associated with the S-form
- Pharmacokinetic property is linear
- Highly protein bound
- Metabolized in the liver
- Metabolites and some unchanged drug excreted in urine
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Inhibits the cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Demonstrates minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet: Recommended dose is 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use only (up to 7 days)
- Injection: Used for moderately severe, acute pain management
- Dosage varies based on age and condition
- Eye Drops: Recommended 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily for adults
Interaction
- Other NSAIDs or aspirin increase side effects of Winop
- Anti-coagulants enhance anti-coagulant effect
- Beta Blockers reduce anti-hypertensive effect
- ACE Inhibitors increase the risk of renal impairment
- Methotrexate enhances the toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Not for children under 16 years old
- Contraindicated as prophylactic analgesic before surgery

- Eye Drops: Discontinue use in corneal epithelial breakdown, avoid use with contact lenses
