Indications

  • Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
  • Relieves pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
  • Decreases eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies

Description

  • Belongs to the pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
  • Chemical name: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2-amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
  • Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
  • Biological activity associated with the S-form
  • Pharmacokinetic property is linear
  • Highly protein bound
  • Metabolized in the liver
  • Metabolites and some unchanged drug excreted in urine

Pharmacology

  • Potent analgesic of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
  • Inhibits the cyclooxygenase enzyme system
  • Demonstrates minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose

Dosage & Administration

  • Tablet: Recommended dose is 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use only (up to 7 days)
  • Injection: Used for moderately severe, acute pain management
  • Dosage varies based on age and condition
  • Eye Drops: Recommended 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily for adults

Interaction

  • Other NSAIDs or aspirin increase side effects of Winop
  • Anti-coagulants enhance anti-coagulant effect
  • Beta Blockers reduce anti-hypertensive effect
  • ACE Inhibitors increase the risk of renal impairment
  • Methotrexate enhances the toxicity of methotrexate

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
  • Not for children under 16 years old
  • Contraindicated as prophylactic analgesic before surgery

  • Eye Drops: Discontinue use in corneal epithelial breakdown, avoid use with contact lenses
