Flutide (250 mcg+10 mcg)/puff (Inhaler)

Indications

• Asthma
• COPD

Pharmacology

• Contains Fluticasone propionate and Formoterol fumarate
• Reduces swelling and inflammation in the lungs
• Helps airways in the lungs to stay open

Dosage

• Recommended dose for adults and adolescents aged 12 years and above: Two inhalations (puffs) twice daily
• Total daily dose can be increased for adults only if asthma remains poorly controlled
• Recommended dose for COPD: Two inhalations twice daily

Administration

• Patients need to be trained on the use of the inhaler

Interaction

• No formal drug interaction studies performed
• Caution needed in co-administration with strong CYP 3A4 inhibitors

Contraindications

• Not for use in acute asthma symptoms
• Not for use in exercise-induced asthma
• Not to be used as the first treatment for asthma
• Caution needed in various medical conditions such as infections, cardiovascular disorders, and diabetes

Side Effects

• Paradoxical bronchospasm may occur
• Possible dysphonia and candidiasis

Use in Special Populations

• No need to adjust the dose in elderly patients

• Inhaled corticosteroid therapy should be monitored in children to review growth

Overdose Effects

• Likely effects of Formoterol overdose include angina, hypertension, palpitations, and dry mouth
• Overdose with Fluticasone Propionate usually does not constitute a clinical problem
