Indications

  • Bacterial conjunctivitis treatment
  • Treatment of bacterial corneal ulcer
  • Blepharitis treatment
  • Hordeolum treatment
  • Treatment of perioperative ocular conditions

Pharmacology

  • Sterile topical ophthalmic solution
  • Broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
  • Inhibits bacterial topoisomerase IV
  • Inhibits DNA gyrase enzymes

Dosage & Administration

  • 0.5% eye drop for adults and children over 1 year
  • 1-2 drops every 2 hours on days 1 and 2
  • 1-2 drops every 4 hours on days 3-7
  • 1.5% eye drop for adults and children over 6 years
  • 1-2 drops every 30 minutes to 2 hours on days 1-3
  • 1-2 drops every 1 to 4 hours after day 4
  • Not established for children under 1 year

Interaction

  • Elevates plasma concentrations of theophylline
  • Interferes with the metabolism of caffeine
  • Enhances the effects of oral anticoagulant warfarin

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Levofloxacin or quinolones
  • Hypersensitivity to any components of the medication

  • Pharyngitis

  • Use only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to fetus
  • Caution when used by nursing mothers

Precautions & Warnings

  • Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms
  • Discontinue use if superinfection occurs
