Indications
- Moderate to severe acute post-operative pain management
- Relief from pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
- Decreasing eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies
Description
- Belongs to pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
- Chemical composition as 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid and 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
- Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
- Predominantly metabolized in the liver
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Acts by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Demonstrates minimal anti-inflammatory effect at its analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended tablet dose of 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use (up to 7 days)
- Injection may be used for acute pain management, with specific doses for different age and weight groups
- Adults: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily for eye drops
Interactions
- Increases side effects with other NSAIDs or aspirin
- Enhances anti-coagulant effect with anti-coagulants
- Reduces the anti-hypertensive effect with Beta Blockers
- Increases the risk of renal impairment with ACE Inhibitors
- Enhances the toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Children under 16 years of age
- Prophylactic analgesic use before surgery

- Discontinue use of topical NSAIDs in case of corneal epithelial breakdown
