Indications

  • Moderate to severe acute post-operative pain management
  • Relief from pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
  • Decreasing eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies

Description

  • Belongs to pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
  • Chemical composition as 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid and 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
  • Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
  • Predominantly metabolized in the liver

Pharmacology

  • Potent analgesic of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
  • Acts by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase enzyme system
  • Demonstrates minimal anti-inflammatory effect at its analgesic dose

Dosage & Administration

  • Recommended tablet dose of 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use (up to 7 days)
  • Injection may be used for acute pain management, with specific doses for different age and weight groups
  • Adults: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily for eye drops

Interactions

  • Increases side effects with other NSAIDs or aspirin
  • Enhances anti-coagulant effect with anti-coagulants
  • Reduces the anti-hypertensive effect with Beta Blockers
  • Increases the risk of renal impairment with ACE Inhibitors
  • Enhances the toxicity of methotrexate

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
  • Children under 16 years of age
  • Prophylactic analgesic use before surgery
