Composition

  • Aluminium Hydroxide Gel (Al2O3 47%, minimum): 250 mg
  • Magnesium Hydroxide: 400 mg
  • Aluminium Oxide (Equivalent amount of Aluminium Hydroxide Gel USP): 175 mg
  • Magnesium Hydroxide (Equivalent amount of Magnesium Hydroxide Paste USP): 225 mg

Dosage & Administration

  • Tablet: Two tablets 1-3 hours after meal and at bed time or as directed by the physician
  • Suspension: 2 teaspoonful 1-3 hours after meal and at bed time or as directed by the physician

Interaction

  • Inhibition of absorption of certain drugs: Azithromycin, cefpodoxime, ciprofloxacin, isoniazid, rifampicin, norfloxacin, ofloxacin, pivampicillin, tetracyclines, Gabapentin, phenytoin, Itraconazole, ketoconazole, Chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine, Phenothiazines

Contraindications

  • Hypophosphataemia
  • Alkalosis
  • Hypermagnesaemia
  • Abdominal distention due to partial or complete intestinal obstruction

Side Effects

  • Alkaluria from long term use leading to calcium phosphate precipitation and nephrolithiasis

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Avoiding antacid preparations in the first trimester of pregnancy

Precautions & Warnings

  • Reduced absorption of tetracycline when given concomitantly
  • Should not be used concomitantly with tetracycline
