Composition

  • Each tablet contains 1250 mg Calcium Carbonate (Coral source)
  • Each tablet contains 500 mg elemental Calcium & 200 IU Vitamin D
  • Each DX tablet contains 1500 mg Calcium Carbonate (Coral source)
  • Each DX tablet contains 600 mg elemental Calcium & 400 IU Vitamin D
  • Each effervescent tablet contains 1500 mg Calcium Carbonate (Coral source)
  • Each effervescent tablet contains 600 mg elemental Calcium & 400 IU Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3)

Pharmacology

  • Calcium is useful for prevention and treatment of Osteoporosis and associated fractures
  • Vitamin D aids in Calcium absorption and stimulates bone formation
  • Calcium and vitamin D have synergistic effects on bone growth and in Osteoporosis and fracture prevention
  • Coral Calcium has a chemical structure similar to human bone for better absorption
  • Vitamin D3 aids in absorption of Calcium from GI tract and helps maintain Calcium balance in the body

Dosage & Administration

  • One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water
  • Dissolve 1 effervescent tablet in a glass of water to drink orally
  • Taking with a full stomach ensures better absorption

Interaction

  • Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary excretion of calcium
  • Systemic corticosteroids reduce calcium absorption
  • Ion exchange resins and laxatives may reduce gastrointestinal absorption of vitamin D
  • Calcium carbonate may interfere with absorption of tetracycline preparations
  • Hypercalcemia may increase toxicity of cardiac glycosides during treatment with calcium and vitamin D

Contraindications

  • Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
  • Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
  • Hypersensitivity to the component of this preparation
  • Severe renal insufficiencies
  • Concomitant digoxin therapy

  • Irritation to the GI tract
  • Constipation
  • Rarely produced hypercalcemia
  • Allergic reactions
  • Irregular heartbeats
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Decreased appetite
  • Dry mouth
  • Drowsiness
  • Skin rash reported with Vitamin D supplements

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Daily intake should not exceed 1500 mg calcium and 600 IU cholecalciferol
  • Avoid overdoses as permanent hypercalcemia may have adverse effects on the developing fetus
  • No indications that vitamin D at therapeutic doses is teratogenic in humans
  • Calcium and vitamin D3 pass into breast milk

Precautions & Warnings

  • Long-term treatment requires monitoring of serum calcium levels and renal function
  • Extra caution needed in elderly patients and those with high tendency to calculus formation
  • Caution in patients with impairment of renal function and risk of soft tissue calcification
  • Caution in immobilized patients with osteoporosis
  • Close medical supervision needed for additional doses of calcium or vitamin D

Overdose Effects

  • Hypervitaminosis D and hypercalcemia
  • Symptoms may include anorexia, thirst, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, mental disturbances, polydipsia, polyuria, bone pain, nephrocalcinosis, nephrolithiasis, cardiac arrhythmias, coma and death
  • Persistently high calcium levels may lead to irreversible renal damage and soft tissue calcification
