Indications

Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults

Pharmacology

Inhibitor of DPP-4 enzyme
Increases active incretin hormones
Stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells
Decreases glucagon secretion from pancreatic alpha cells

Dosage & Administration

Daily dosage of 5 mg
Concomitant administration with metformin
Consideration for lower sulphonylurea dose in combination therapy
No dose adjustment required for renal impairment
Can be taken with or without a meal

Interaction

Weak competitive and mechanism-based inhibitor of CYP3A4
Low risk for clinically meaningful interactions
No clinically relevant effect on the pharmacokinetics of certain medications
