Indications
- Bronchial asthma
- Bronchospasm
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Pulmonary disease with spastic bronchial component
Pharmacology
Doxophylline is a novel bronchodilator with a dioxolane group in position 7. It selectively inhibits phosphodiesterase 4, relaxes bronchial smooth muscle, and has decreased affinities toward adenosine A1 and A2 receptors.
Dosage & Administration
- Elderly: 200 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Adults: 400 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Children:
- >12 years of age: 10 ml syrup or 200 mg tablet two or three times daily
- 6-12 years of age: 6-9 mg/kg body weight two times daily
Interaction
Pulmino should not be administered with other xanthine preparations, and caution should be exercised in administering it with ephedrine or other sympathomimetic drugs.
Contraindications
Doxophylline is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to the drug or other xanthine derivatives, and in patients with acute myocardial infarction, hypotension, and during lactation.

Pregnancy & Lactation
Use of the drug during pregnancy should be evaluated carefully on the basis of the risk-benefit ratio, and it is contraindicated during lactation.
Precautions & Warnings
Caution should be taken in administering the drug to patients with various conditions, and monitoring of blood levels is recommended in case of factors that may influence the clearance of xanthine derivatives.
Overdose Effects
In case of overdose severe cardiac arrhythmias and tonic-clonic seizure may occur, requiring discontinuation of the treatment and a symptomatic treatment of cardiovascular collapse.

Keep in a dry place away from light and heat. Keep out of the reach of children. Pulmino should be used only on prescription of specialist physician.
