Indications
- Bronchial asthma
- Bronchospasm
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Pulmonary disease with spastic bronchial component
Pharmacology
- Doxophylline is a novel bronchodilator
- Inhibits phosphodiesterase 4
- Relaxes bronchial smooth muscle
- Selectively inhibits phosphodiesterase 4
- Decreased affinities toward adenosine A1 and A2 receptors
- Inhibits platelet activating factor (PAF) and generation of leukotriene production
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage for Elderly: 200 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Dosage for Adults: 400 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Dosage for Children (>12 years of age): 10 ml syrup or 200 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Dosage for Children (6-12 years of age): 6-9 mg/kg body weight two times daily
- Doxophylline SR tablet for required daily dose of 400 mg
Interaction
- Avoid administration with other xanthine preparations
- Limit consumption of beverages and food containing caffeine
- Use caution when combining with ephedrine or other sympathomimetic drugs
- Concurrent administration with erythromycin, TAO, lincomycin, clindamycin, allopurinol, cimetidine, influenza vaccine, and propanolol
- Phenytoin, other anticonvulsants, and cigarette smoking may affect clearance
- Possible dosage adjustment in case of interaction

- Known hypersensitivity to the drug or other xanthine derivatives
- Acute myocardial infarction
- Hypotension
