Cosentyx 150 mg/ml (Injection)

Indications

• Treatment of moderate to severe plaque psoriasis in adult patients
• Treatment of adults with active psoriatic arthritis (PsA)
• Treatment of adults with active ankylosing spondylitis (AS)

Pharmacology

• Secukinumab targets IL-17A cytokine to downregulate inflammation in psoriasis
• Targets dysregulation of innate and adaptive immune responses
• Elevated expression of IL-17 cytokines in psoriatic skin

Dosage & Administration

• Recommended dosage for plaque psoriasis: 300 mg by subcutaneous injection at Weeks 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 followed by 300 mg every 4 weeks
• Recommended dosage for psoriatic arthritis: 150 mg at weeks 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 and every 4 weeks thereafter
• Recommended dosage for ankylosing spondylitis: 150 mg at weeks 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 and every 4 weeks thereafter

Interaction

• Live vaccines should not be given with Cosentyx

Contraindications

• Serious hypersensitivity reaction to secukinumab or to any of the excipients

Side Effects

• Most common adverse reactions are nasopharyngitis, diarrhea, and upper respiratory tract infection

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Limited available human data with secukinumab use in pregnant women
• No adverse developmental effects observed in infants born to pregnant monkeys after secukinumab administration during organogenesis
• Unknown excretion of secukinumab in human milk or absorbed systemically after ingestion

Precautions & Warnings

• Caution in patients with chronic infection or history of recurrent infection
• Evaluate for TB prior to initiating treatment with Cosentyx
• Exercise caution when prescribing to patients with inflammatory bowel disease
• Discontinue Cosentyx if serious infection or allergic reaction occurs

Overdose Effects

• Doses up to 30 mg/kg intravenously administered without dose-limiting toxicity
• Monitor for signs or symptoms of adverse reactions in case of overdosage

Storage Conditions

• Cosentyx Sensoready pens, prefilled syringes and vials must be refrigerated at 2°C to 8°C
• Keep the product in the original carton to protect from light until the time of use
• Do not freeze, avoid shaking, and discard any unused portion
