Indications
- Hypertension
- Congestive heart failure
- Acute myocardial infarction
- Glomerular or incipient nephropathy

Pharmacology
- Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor
- Decreased plasma angiotensin II
- Decreased vasopressor activity
- Decreased aldosterone secretion
- Management of heart failure
Dosage
- Adjustable dosage
- Initial dose of 1.25-2.5 mg once daily
- Maintenance dosage of 2.5-20 mg daily
- Titration to target daily dose of 5 mg twice daily
- Dosage adjustment in renal impairment
Administration
- Oral administration
- Swallow whole with liquid
- Can be taken before, during or after a meal
Interaction
- Concomitant administration with diuretics
- Concomitant therapy with lithium
- Effect of alcohol on driving and machinery operation
- Reduced effect with NSAIDs
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to ramipril or any other ACE inhibitor
- History of angioedema
- Concomitant use with sacubitril/valsartan
- Renal artery stenosis
- Hypotensive or haemodynamically unstable states
- Concomitant use with aliskiren-containing medicines or angiotensin II receptor antagonists (AIIRAs)
- During pregnancy
- Concomitant use with extracorporeal treatments

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not to be taken during pregnancy
- Pregnancy must be excluded before starting treatment
- Avoid treatment with ACE inhibitors if pregnancy is intended
- Not recommended during breastfeeding
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in impaired renal function
- Caution in hyperkalaemia
- Caution in hypotension
- Caution in impaired hepatic function
Use in Special Populations
- Reduced initial dose for elderly
- Initiation under close medical supervision in hepatic impairment
- Consideration for reduced initial dose in renal impairment
- Consideration for discontinuing diuretic use in patients pretreated with a diuretic
Overdose Effects
- Excessive peripheral vasodilatation
- Bradycardia
- Electrolyte disturbances
- Renal failure
- Primary detoxification methods
