To promote the formation of a fibrin capsule to wall off and inhibit the growth of ovarian tumors
To cause regression of ascites secondary to carcinoma
To reduce bleeding during surgical interventions

Usual dose for adults: 500-1000 mg 3 times daily
Recommended daily doses for prophylaxis: 0.5-1 gm orally, 500 mg by the parenteral route
Increased oral dose for therapy of hemorrhagic manifestations: 1-3 gm
Dosage for children based on body weight

Incompatible with solutions containing penicillins
Antagonized by thrombolytic drugs like Streptokinase & Urokinase
Potential for increased thrombus formation with concomitant administration of estrogen-containing drugs

Should not be administered during known and presumed pregnancy
Passes into breast milk to a low concentration unlikely to cause antifibrinolytic effect in the infant
