Composition

  • Each tablet contains 1250 mg of calcium carbonate from coral source
  • Each tablet contains 500 mg of elemental calcium and 200 IU of vitamin D
  • Each DX tablet contains 1500 mg of calcium carbonate from coral source
  • Each DX tablet contains 600 mg of elemental calcium and 400 IU of vitamin D
  • Each effervescent tablet contains 1500 mg of calcium carbonate from coral source
  • Each effervescent tablet contains 600 mg of elemental calcium and 400 IU of vitamin D3 as Cholecalciferol

Dosage and Administration

  • One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water
  • Dissolve 1 effervescent tablet in a glass of water to drink orally

Interaction

  • Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary excretion of calcium
  • Systemic corticosteroids reduce calcium absorption
  • Simultaneous treatment with ion exchange resins and laxatives may reduce vitamin D absorption
  • Calcium carbonate may interfere with absorption of tetracycline preparations
  • Hypercalcemia may increase toxicity of cardiac glycosides during treatment
  • Patients should not take calcium products within two hours of eating foods high in oxalic acid and phytic acid

Contraindications

  • Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
  • Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
  • Hypersensitivity to the component
  • Severe renal insufficiencies
  • Concomitant digoxin therapy

Pregnancy and Lactation

  • Daily intake should not exceed 1500 mg calcium and 600 IU cholecalciferol
  • Overdoses should be avoided in pregnant women
  • No indications that vitamin D at therapeutic doses is teratogenic in humans
  • Calcium and vitamin D3 pass into breast milk

Precautions and Warnings

  • Serum calcium levels should be monitored during long-term treatment
  • Renal function should be monitored
  • Monitoring especially important in elderly patients on concomitant treatment with cardiac glycosides or diuretics
  • Caution in patients with impairment of renal function
  • Risk of soft tissue calcification should be taken into account
  • Caution in patients suffering from sarcoidosis
  • Caution in immobilized patients with osteoporosis

Overdose Effects

  • Hypervitaminosis D and hypercalcemia
  • Symptoms may include anorexia, thirst, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, mental disturbances, polydipsia, polyuria, bone pain, nephrocalcinosis, cardiac arrhythmias
  • Persistently high calcium levels may lead to irreversible renal damage and soft tissue calcification
