Description
- Doxolator is a bronchodilator used to treat bronchial asthma, bronchospasm, COPD, and pulmonary disease with spastic bronchial components.
- It contains the active ingredient Doxophylline, which selectively inhibits phosphodiesterase 4, relaxes bronchial smooth muscle, and has a better safety profile than Theophylline.
- Dosage & Administration: Elderly - 200mg tablet two or three times daily, Adults - 400mg tablet two or three times daily, Children - syrup or tablet as prescribed by physician.
- Interaction: Should not be administered with other xanthine preparations, caution with ephedrine and sympathomimetic drugs, concurrent administration with certain drugs may alter hepatic clearance.
- Contraindications: Known hypersensitivity to the drug or other xanthine derivatives, acute myocardial infarction, hypotension, and during lactation.
- Side Effects: Nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, headache, irritability, insomnia, tachycardia, tachypnea, hyperglycemia, albuminuria, severe cardiac arrhythmias, tonic-clonic seizure in case of overdose.
- Pregnancy & Lactation: Use during pregnancy and lactation should be evaluated carefully, contraindicated during lactation.
- Precautions & Warnings: Caution in patients with cardiac disease, hypertension, elderly, severe hypoxemia, hyperthyroidism, chronic corpulmonale, congestive heart failure, liver disease, peptic ulcer, and renal impairment.
- Overdose Effects: Severe cardiac arrhythmias and tonic-clonic seizure may occur, no specific antidote, symptomatic treatment of cardiovascular collapse should be instituted.
