Pharmacology
Inhibits Phospholipase A2 enzyme, decreases release of certain immune system chemicals
Dosage & Administration
- Adults:
- Up to 120 mg/day for acute disorders
- Maintenance doses within the range of 3-18 mg/day for most conditions
- Titrate to the lowest effective dose for maintenance in other conditions
- Children:
- Doses usually lie in the range 0.25-1.5 mg/kg/day
- Deflazacort withdrawal: Dose reduction depends on relapse likelihood
Interaction
Metabolized in the liver; dose adjustment needed with liver enzyme inducers or inhibitors
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients
- Patients receiving live virus immunization
