Indications
- Treatment of nausea and vomiting of pregnancy
Pharmacology
- Doxylamine Succinate: antihistamine
- Blocks Histamine (H1) receptor
- Crosses the blood brain barrier
- Affects the vestibular system
- Pyridoxine Hydrochloride: vitamin B6 analog
- Prevents nausea and vomiting
Dosage & Administration
- Initial dose: one tablet orally at bedtime
- Maximum recommended dose: two tablets per day
Interaction
- Contraindicated with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)
- Not recommended with alcohol or CNS depressants
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Doxylamine Succinate or Pyridoxine Hydrochloride
- Concurrent use with MAO inhibitors
Side Effects
- Somnolence or accidents from combined use with CNS depressants
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy category A
- Excreted into breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- May cause somnolence
- Not recommended while using CNS depressants
- Use caution in women with asthma, increased intraocular pressure, and other conditions
Overdose Effects
- Delayed signs and symptoms of intoxication
- Anticholinergic effects at toxic doses
