Pharmacology
Combination of Paracetamol and Caffeine; Paracetamol has analgesic and antipyretic properties with weak anti-inflammatory activity; Caffeine increases solubility and transmembrane permeation of Paracetamol; Caffeine increases pain threshold and tolerance of pain; Caffeine raises vessel tone in the brain
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dose: 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours, Maximum dose: 8 tablets daily
- Child dose: Not recommended for children below 12 years
Interaction
May interact with anticonvulsants, warfarin, metoclopramide, domperidone, probenecid, chloramphenicol, phenothiazine
Contraindications
Contraindicated in severe renal function impairment, hepatic disease, and known hypersensitivity to paracetamol or caffeine
Side Effects
Mild side effects, haematological reactions, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, pancytopenia, pancreatitis, skin rashes, allergic reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation
Consultation required for pregnant mothers, safe for breastfeeding
Precautions & Warnings
Cautious use in hepatic or renal failure, with other hepatotoxic medication, and avoiding prolonged use without consulting a physician
Overdose Effects
Symptoms include pallor, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, abdominal pain, liver damage, abnormalities of glucose metabolism, metabolic acidosis
