Indications
- Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus
- Improving glycaemic control in adults
- Monotherapy for inadequately controlled patients
- Combination therapy with metformin and sulphonylurea
- Intolerance or contraindication due to renal impairment
Pharmacology
- Inhibitor of DPP-4 (dipeptidyl peptidase-4) enzyme
- Increases concentrations of active incretin hormones
- Stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells
- Decreases glucagon secretion from pancreatic alpha cells
Dosage & Administration
- 5 mg once daily
- Maintenance of metformin dose if used in combination
- Consideration of lower dose of sulphonylurea in combination therapy
- No dose adjustment required for patients with renal impairment
- Can be taken with or without a meal at any time of the day
Interaction
- Weak competitive inhibitor of CYP3A4
- Weak to moderate mechanism-based inhibitor of CYP3A4
- Low risk for clinically meaningful interactions with other medicinal products
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
