Composition

  • Calcium Carbonate USP 1250 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 500 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 200 IU per tablet
  • Calcium Carbonate USP 1500 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 400 IU per DX tablet
  • Calcium Carbonate (Coral source) USP 1500 mg equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 400 IU as Cholecalciferol USP per effervescent tablet

Dosage & Administration

  • Take one tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water
  • Dissolve 1 effervescent tablet in a glass of water to drink orally
  • Taking with a full stomach ensures better absorption

Interaction

  • Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary excretion of calcium
  • Systemic corticosteroids reduce calcium absorption
  • Simultaneous treatment with ion exchange resins or laxatives may reduce gastrointestinal absorption of vitamin D
  • Interference with the absorption of concomitantly administered tetracycline preparations
  • Increased risk of toxicity of cardiac glycosides during treatment with calcium and vitamin D

Contraindications

  • Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
  • Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
  • Hypersensitivity to the components
  • Severe renal insufficiency
  • Concomitant digoxin therapy

Precautions & Warnings

  • Monitoring serum calcium levels and renal function during long-term treatment
  • Caution in elderly patients on concomitant treatment with cardiac glycosides or diuretics
  • Monitoring effect on calcium and phosphate levels in patients with impaired renal function
  • Caution in patients suffering from sarcoidosis
  • Increased risk of hypercalcemia in immobilized patients with osteoporosis
  • Consideration of vitamin D dose when prescribing other drugs containing vitamin D

Overdose Effects

  • Hypervitaminosis D
  • Hypercalcemia symptoms such as anorexia, thirst, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue
  • Possible irreversible renal damage and soft tissue calcification
  • Treatment includes discontinuation of calcium and other relevant medications, rehydration, and monitoring of serum electrolytes
