Indications
- Treatment of acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
- Treatment of acute bacterial otitis media
- Treatment of pharyngitis and tonsillitis
Pharmacology
- Semi-synthetic Cephalosporin antibiotic for oral administration
- Exerts bactericidal action by binding to essential target proteins of bacterial cell wall
- Inhibition of cell-wall synthesis
Dosage & Administration
- 400 mg orally every 24 hours for adults with otitis media, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, and bronchitis
- 9 mg/kg/day (max 400 mg) every 24 hours for pediatric otitis media, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, and bronchitis
- 200 mg orally every 12 hours for adults with pneumonia
- 400 mg orally every 24 hours for adults with sinusitis and urinary tract infection
- 2.25-4.5 mg/kg or 100-200 mg once a day for renal impairment
Interaction
- Theophylline & antacid do not alter the pharmacokinetic profile of the product
- Ranitidine increases the Cmax & AUC of the product
Contraindications
- Known allergy to cephalosporin group of antibiotics
