Description
Unipril is an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor used to lower blood pressure, manage congestive heart failure, prevent major cardiovascular events, and reduce the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction and death from cardiovascular events.

Pharmacology
- Blocks angiotensin I conversion
- Decreases plasma angiotensin II
- Reduces vasopressor activity
- Decreases aldosterone secretion
Administration
Must be swallowed with liquid; can be taken before, during, or after a meal
Interaction Warnings
- Concomitant use with diuretics may lead to serious hypotension and hyperkalemia
- Concomitant therapy with lithium may increase serum lithium concentration
- NSAIDs may reduce antihypertensive effect
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to ramipril or other ACE inhibitors
- History of angioedema
- Presence of haemodynamically relevant renal artery stenosis
- Use of aliskiren-containing medicines in patients with diabetes or moderate to severe renal impairment

- Hepatic impairment: Initiate treatment under close medical supervision
- Renal impairment: Adjust dose according to creatinine clearance
Overdose Effects
- Excessive peripheral vasodilatation
- Bradycardia
- Electrolyte disturbances
- Renal failure
