Indications
- Hypertension
- Heart failure with impaired left ventricular systolic function
Pharmacology
- Candesartan Cilexetil is an ester prodrug
- Active form is Candesartan
- Blocks angiotensin II receptor
- Blocks vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects
Dosage & Administration
- Initial dose for hypertension: 8 mg once daily
- Titration for hypertension: max 32 mg once daily
- Initial dose for heart failure: 4 mg once daily
- Titration for heart failure: target dose of 32 mg once daily
Interaction
- No significant drug interactions reported
- Not metabolized by cytochrome P-450 system
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component
- Not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Cholestasis
