Indications

  • Bronchial asthma
  • Bronchospasm
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Pulmonary disease with spastic bronchial component

Pharmacology

  • Selective inhibition of phosphodiesterase 4
  • Relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle
  • Inhibition of platelet activating factor (PAF)
  • Decreased affinities toward adenosine A1 and A2 receptors

Dosage & Administration

  • 200 mg tablet dosage for elderly
  • 400 mg tablet dosage for adults
  • 10 ml syrup dosage for children above 12 years of age
  • 6-9 mg/kg body weight dosage for children 6-12 years of age
  • 400 mg daily dosage for sustained-release tablet

Interaction

  • Contraindicated with other xanthine preparations
  • Caution with beverages and food containing caffeine
  • Exercise caution with ephedrine or other sympathomimetic drugs
  • Limit concurrent administration with erythromycin, TAO, lincomycin, clindamycin, allopurinol, cimetidine, influenza vaccine, and propanolol

  • Acute myocardial infarction
  • Hypotension
  • Lactation
