Indications
- Treatment of Feroven deficiency in the following indications
- Rapid Feroven supply for clinical need
- Patients intolerant to oral Feroven therapy
- Active inflammatory bowel disease
- Non-dialysis dependent-chronic kidney disease (NDD-CKD)
- Hemodialysis dependent-chronic kidney disease (HDD-CKD)

- Feroven deficiency anaemia in surgical procedures
- Feroven deficiency anaemia in blood donors
- Feroven deficiency anaemia in postpartum patients
Pharmacology
- Therapeutic class: Haematinic
- Iron Sucrose Injection USP description
- Composition: Polynuclear Iron (III) Hydroxide in Sucrose
- Approximately 30% Sucrose w/v (300 mg/ml)
- pH: 10.5-11.1
- Distribution and elimination of Iron and Sucrose
- Transferrin and ferritin binding and sequestering of Iron
- Transferrin receptor and apotransferrin
Dosage
- Adult dosage: 5-10 ml Iron Sucrose Injection (100-200 mg Iron) once to three times a week
- Limited data on children under study conditions
- Children's dosage (if clinically needed)
Administration
- Intravenous injection instructions

- Maximum tolerated single dose of 7 mg Iron/kg body weight
Interaction
- No studied drug interactions
- Avoid concomitant oral iron preparations
- Wait 5 days after last injection for oral Feroven therapy
Contraindications
- Evidence of Iron overload
- Known hypersensitivity to Iron Sucrose or its inactive components
- Anaemia not caused by Iron deficiency
- History of allergic disorders, asthma, eczema, anaphylaxis, liver disease, and infections
Side Effects
- Adverse reactions related to Feroven injection
- Specific reactions: hypotension, cramps, nausea, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, chest pain, hypertension, dyspnea, pruritus
- Hypersensitivity reactions and anaphylactoid reactions

- Caution when used during pregnancy and lactation
