Indications
- Prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma
- Acute prevention of Exercise-Induced Bronchoconstriction (EIB)
- Relief of symptoms of Allergic Rhinitis (AR): Seasonal & Perennial Allergic Rhinitis
Pharmacology
- Selective and orally active leukotriene receptor antagonist
- Inhibition of cysteinyl leukotriene receptor (CysLT1)
- Correlation with asthma & allergic rhinitis pathophysiology
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage: Montelukast 10 mg tablet once daily
- Pediatric dosage: Montelukast 4-5 mg once daily
- Use in pediatric patients aged 6 months to 14 years
- No dosage adjustment in hepatic or renal insufficiency
- Similar pharmacokinetics in elderly and younger adults
Interaction
- No clinically important effects on pharmacokinetics of certain drugs
- Used concomitantly with a wide range of commonly prescribed drugs
- Appropriate clinical monitoring with cytochrome P450 enzyme inducers
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the product
Side Effects
- Common side effects: Diarrhoea, headache, nausea, vomiting
- Uncommon side effects: Anxiety, depression, dizziness, muscle complaints
- Rare side effects: Angioedema, hallucination, suicidal tendencies
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Crosses placenta, caution in pregnant women
- Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed
- Exercise caution when given to nursing mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Not for reversal of bronchospasm in acute asthma attacks
- Appropriate rescue medication should be available
- Do not abruptly substitute for inhaled or oral corticosteroids

- Usual supportive measures in case of overdose
- Adverse experiences consistent with safety profile of the product
