Description

Indications

  • Treatment of intestinal nematode infections and hydatid disease
  • Exhibits vermicidal, ovicidal, and larvicidal activity

Pharmacology

  • Broad spectrum anthelmintic
  • Blocks glucose uptake in susceptible helminths
  • Exerts anthelmintic effect by inhibiting tubulin polymerization
  • Extensively metabolized, mainly in the liver
  • Poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract

Dosage and administration

  • Recommended doses for adults and children over 2 years
  • Different dosages for strongyloidiasis, taeniasis, and hydatid disease
  • Not recommended for children under 1 year
  • Treatment of giardiasis
  • Duration and dosage adjustment for cystic and alveolar echinococcosis
