Indications
- Treatment of single infection or mixed infections caused by susceptible organisms
- Treatment of infections caused by organisms resistant to other antibiotics
- Antibacterial activity against a wide range of infections
- Severe systemic infections such as septicaemia and bacteraemia
- Respiratory tract infections like bronchopneumonia and bronchitis
- Urinary tract infections including cystitis and pyelonephritis
- Skin and soft tissue infections like abscesses and cellulitis
- Gastrointestinal infections like enteric fever and infective diarrhea
- Bone and joint infections like osteomyelitis and septic arthritis
- Pelvic infections like salpingitis and endometritis

- Gonorrhoea including urethral, rectal, and pharyngeal gonorrhoea
Pharmacology
- Synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent
- Broad spectrum of activity against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria
- Bactericidal action through interference with DNA gyrase enzyme
- Rapid and well absorption from the G.I. tract
- Widely distributed into body tissues and fluids
- Excreted in the urine within 24 hours as unchanged drug and metabolites
Dosage
- Dosage range for adults: 100-750 mg twice daily
- Varied dosage for specific infections such as urinary, respiratory, and gonorrhea
- Dosage adjustment for impaired renal function and elderly patients
- Duration of treatment based on severity of infection
- Extended-release tablet dosage for acute cystitis
- IV infusion dosage for different types of infections
Administration
- Instructions for using Ciprofloxacin IV infusion
- Proper handling and setup of administration set
Interaction
- Avoid concurrent administration with certain antacids or sucralfate
- Do not take concurrently with milk or dairy products
Contraindications
