Indications

  • Treatment of single infection or mixed infections caused by susceptible organisms
  • Treatment of infections resistant to other antibiotics
  • Treatment of urinary, respiratory, gastrointestinal, skin, soft tissue, bone, joint, pelvic, and eye infections
  • Treatment of gonorrhoea
  • Treatment of biliary tract, intra-abdominal, and pelvic infections

Pharmacology

  • Synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent
  • Broad spectrum of activity against gram-negative and gram-positive aerobic bacteria
  • Bactericidal action through interference with DNA gyrase
  • Rapid and well absorption from the gastrointestinal tract
  • Widely distributed into body tissues and fluids
  • Excretion in urine as unchanged drug and biologically active metabolites

Dosage

  • Dosage determined by severity and type of infection, sensitivity of causative organism(s), age, weight, and renal function of the patient
  • Dosage range for adults: 100-750 mg twice daily
  • Specific dosages for different types of infections and conditions
  • Duration of treatment depends on severity and clinical response

Interaction
