Description
- Razithro is indicated for a range of infections in the respiratory tract, skin, and sexually transmitted diseases.
- Azithromycin is absorbed easily and its high concentration in phagocytes allows it to be transported to the site of infection.
- Razithro is available as an oral tablet and injection for IV infusion.
- Azithromycin acts by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible microorganisms, interfering with protein synthesis.
DosageOptions
- 500 mg once daily orally for 3 days for adult
- 10 mg/kg body weight once daily for 3 days for children over 6 months
- 500 mg as a single daily dose for at least two days for community-acquired pneumonia in adults
- Add boiled and cooled water up to the water mark of the bottle label for reconstitution of suspension
AdministrationInstructions
- Shake the bottle well to loosen the powder before reconstitution
- Azithromycin should be taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal
InteractionEffects
- Azithromycin and antacids should be taken at least 1 hour apart
- Closely monitor cyclosporin levels if co-administered with azithromycin
- The possibility of raised digoxin levels should be monitored when received concomitant azithromycin and digoxin
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Azithromycin or any other macrolide antibiotic
- Co-administration of ergot derivatives and Azithromycin
- Patients with hepatic diseases

- Mild to moderate gastrointestinal side-effects such as nausea, abdominal discomfort, vomiting, and diarrhea
- Allergic reactions like rash or photosensitivity reported
