Indications

  • Add-on therapy for stable angina pectoris
  • Symptomatic treatment for angina pectoris

Pharmacology

  • First 3-keto acyl CoA thiolase inhibitor
  • Metabolic anti-ischemic agent
  • Inhibition of fatty acid pathway
  • Increase in heart's activity

Dosage & Administration

  • Recommended dose: 35 mg twice daily
  • Alternative: 20 mg tablet thrice daily
  • To be taken during meals
  • Treatment response assessment after three months

Interaction

  • No reported drug interactions
  • No interaction with beta-blockers
  • No interaction with calcium antagonists
  • No interaction with nitrates

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to the active substance
  • Hypersensitivity to any excipients
  • Patients with Parkinson's disease
  • Patients with parkinsonian symptoms
  • Patients with severe renal impairment

Side Effects

  • Common: dizziness, headache, abdominal pain
  • Common: diarrhoea, dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting
  • Common: rash, pruritus, urticaria, asthenia

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • No data on use in pregnant women
  • Preferable to avoid use during pregnancy
  • Unknown excretion in human milk
  • Risk to newborns/infants cannot be excluded

  • Not an initial treatment for unstable angina pectoris
