Indications
- Hypertension
- Renal Protection in Type-2 Diabetic Patients with Proteinuria
Pharmacology
- Non-peptide orally active angiotensin II receptor blocker
- Binds to AT1 receptor in various tissues
- Reduces vasoconstriction and aldosterone release
Dosage & Administration
- Usual starting and maintenance dose of 50 mg once daily
- Possible dose adjustment for patients with intravascular volume-depletion
- Different dosing for patients age 75 and over
Interaction
- Impact of Rifampicin and fluconazole on active metabolite levels
- Concomitant use with hydrochlorothiazide
- Effect of potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, and salt substitutes
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in pregnant women
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the product
- Avoid administration with Aliskiren in diabetic patients
