Indications
- Prevention of pregnancy
- Use as directed for contraceptive purposes
Dosage & Administration
- Take pill daily at the same time
- Start taking the pill on the first day of your period
- Use condom for the first 7 days in the first month if starting the pill at any other time during menstruation
- Take 1 pill daily, then 22 days break, followed by another 6-day pill-free period before starting the next pack
Interaction
- May reduce effectiveness of certain antibiotics, anticonvulsants, and rifampicin; consult doctor if taking additional medications
Contraindications
- Not suitable for individuals with venous thrombosis, cardiovascular accidents, diabetes mellitus with vascular symptoms, severe hypertension, severe dyslipoproteinemia, genetic or acquired predisposition for venous or arterial thrombosis, malignancies of the genital organs, breast, or liver, liver disease, unexplained vaginal bleeding, or known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the pill
Side Effects
- Mild temporary side effects like headache, nausea, vomiting, and slight menstrual irregularities may occur initially, but typically resolve within 2-3 months; consult doctor if side effects persist
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended during pregnancy or if pregnancy is suspected
Precautions & Warnings
- If a pill is missed and not consumed within 12 hours, contraceptive effectiveness may be reduced; follow specific instructions if a pill is missed during different weeks of the pack
- Extra caution for individuals with diabetes, systemic lupus erythematosus, hemolytic uremic syndrome, prolonged immobilization, frequent migraines, tumors, prolonged liver disease, breastfeeding mothers, diabetics, and individuals with a history of chloasma gravidarum
