Dosage
Recommended dose is 10 mg once daily, may be increased to 25 mg once daily
Administration
Taken in the morning, with or without food
Indications
- Adjunct to diet and exercise for type 2 diabetes mellitus
- Reduction of cardiovascular death in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovascular disease
Pharmacology
Sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitor
Interaction
- Diuretics resulted in increased urine volume
- Co-administration with insulin or insulin secretagogues increases risk for hypoglycemia
- Positive urine glucose test not recommended for monitoring glycemic control
- Interference with 1,5-anhydroglucitol (1,5-AG) assay for monitoring glycemic control
Contraindications
History of serious hypersensitivity reaction, severe renal impairment, end-stage renal disease, or dialysis
