Mode of Action
- Azithromycin's half-life allows a large single dose to be administered and maintain bacteriostatic levels in the infected tissue for several days
- Actively transported to the site of infection due to high concentration in phagocytes
- Acts by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible microorganisms, interfering with microbial protein synthesis
Dosage
- 500mg once daily orally for 3 days for adult
- 250mg once daily orally for 4 days for adult
- Doses based on body weight for children over 6 months
- 500mg IV infusion for adult patients with community-acquired pneumonia
- 500mg IV infusion for adult patients with pelvic inflammatory disease

Interaction
