Description
- Indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, with broad spectrum of activity against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria.
- Available in tablet form for oral administration.
Dosage Range
- 100-750 mg for adults
- 250-500 mg for urinary tract infections
- 250-500 mg for respiratory tract infections
- Single dose of 250 or 500 mg for gonorrhea
- 500-750 mg for other infections
- 750 mg for cystic fibrosis (lower respiratory tract infections)
- 7.5-15 mg/kg/day for adolescents and children
- Varied dosages for IV infusion based on infection types
Mode of Action
- Synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent
- Interference with DNA gyrase enzyme for bacterial DNA synthesis
- Rapid and well absorption from the gastrointestinal tract
- Widely distributed into body tissues and fluids
- Approximately 3.5 hours half-life
- Excretion of 30-50% in urine within 24 hours
Indications
- Treatment of single or mixed infections caused by susceptible organisms
- Effective against infections in urinary, respiratory, gastrointestinal tracts, skin, soft tissue, biliary tract, intra-abdominal, bone, joint, pelvic, eye, ear, nose, throat, and gonorrhea
Interaction
- Avoid concurrent administration with magnesium or aluminum containing antacids, sucralfate, products containing calcium, iron, or zinc
- Should not be taken concurrently with milk or dairy products, since absorption may be reduced
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin or other quinolones

- Take with or without meals and drink fluids liberally

Overdose Effects
- May lead to seizures, hallucinations, confusion, abdominal discomfort, renal and hepatic impairment, crystalluria, haematuria, reversible renal toxicity
