- For the prevention of pain and treatment of inflammation and swelling of patients operated in the urogenital tract, renal and biliary colic
- Pharmacology: Potent non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with pronounced anti-rheumatic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic properties. Has uricosuric effect. Inhibits prostaglandin biosynthesis to relieve inflammation, pain, and fever. Rapidly and completely absorbed from the gastro-intestinal tract.
- Dosage & Administration:
- Adults: 75-150 mg daily in 2 to 3 divided doses, preferably after food
- Children: 1-3 mg of diclofenac/kg body wt. daily in divided doses
- Elderly patients: Lowest effective dosage recommended
- Maximum daily dose for adults: 150 mg
- Interaction:
- May interact with lithium and digoxin, anticoagulants, antidiabetic agents, cyclosporin, methotrexate, quinolone antimicrobials, other NSAIDs, and steroids
- Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to any ingredient
- Peptic ulcer
- Hypersensitivity to Diclofenac like other non-steroid anti-inflammatory agents
- Asthma, urticaria or acute rhinitis precipitated by acetylsalicylic acid or other drugs with prostaglandin synthetase inhibitor
- Not to be used under occlusive airtight dressings
- Side Effects:
- Mild, rare, and transient adverse effects such as epigastric pain, eructation, nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, peripheral edema, skin reactions, rash, and eczema
- Local irritation, reddening of the skin, and skin rash with gel application
- Pregnancy & Lactation:
- Use only for compelling reasons during pregnancy
- Lowest effective dose should be used
- Not recommended during the first trimester
- Not recommended for lactating women
- Precautions & Warnings:
- Close observation for peptic ulceration or gastrointestinal bleeding
- Caution to prevent contact with eyes or mucus membranes
- Avoid ingestion
- Storage Conditions: Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light. Store below 30°C. Keep out of the reach of children
