Indications
- Lower respiratory tract infections
- Acute Bacterial Otitis Media

Pharmacology
- Bactericidal activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms
- Interferes with bacterial cell wall synthesis
- High stability in the presence of beta lactamases
- Long plasma elimination half-life of 6 to 9 hours
- Not metabolized in the body
- Excretion in urine and bile/feces
- Highly protein bound (95%)
Dosage
- Adult dosage: 1 to 2 gm by intravenous or intramuscular administration once a day or equally divided doses twice a day
- Maximum adult dose: 4 gm/day
- Infants and Children dosage: 50 to 75 mg/kg intravenous or intramuscular administration once a day or equally divided doses twice a day
- Maximum pediatric dose: 2 gm/day
- Continue therapy for more than 2 days after signs and symptoms have disappeared
- Usual duration of therapy: 4 to 14 days
Administration
- Preparation of Solutions for Intramuscular/Intravenous Injections
- Intramuscular Injection: Dissolve in Lidocaine HCI 1% injection
- Intravenous Injection: Dissolve in Water for injection USP
- Recommended administration over 2-4 minutes for intramuscular or intravenous injection or by tubing infusion over 30 minutes
- Freshly reconstituted solution is recommended

- Avoid use in premature and newborn neonates (up to 28 days of age)
