Dosage & Administration
- For adults: Usually 10 mg once daily; maximum 80 mg once daily if necessary
- For children (10-18 years): Initially 10 mg once daily, increased to max. 20 mg once daily if necessary
- Initial doses for familial hypercholesterolemia and prevention of cardiovascular events
Interactions
- Increased risk of myopathy with concurrent administration of certain drugs
- Altered plasma concentrations when coadministered with antacid, colestipol, digoxin, erythromycin, oral contraceptives
- No clinically significant effect on prothrombin time when administered to patients receiving chronic warfarin treatment
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the medication
- Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases
- History of serious adverse reaction to prior administration of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors

- No clinically significant difference in LDL-C reduction between men and women
