Description

  • Novel bronchodilator for treating bronchial asthma, bronchospasm, COPD, and pulmonary disease with spastic bronchial component
  • Contains Doxophylline with a dioxolane group in position 7
  • Selective inhibitor of phosphodiesterase 4
  • Reported to inhibit platelet activating factor (PAF) and generation of leukotriene production
  • Dosage: 200-400 mg tablet for elderly, 400 mg tablet for adults, syrup or tablet for children based on age and body weight
  • Interactions with xanthine preparations, caffeine, ephedrine, sympathomimetic drugs, and various medications
  • Contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to xanthine derivatives, acute myocardial infarction, hypotension, and lactating mothers
  • Potential side effects include nausea, vomiting, headache, tachycardia, hyperglycemia, and more
  • Pregnancy and lactation precautions with limited clinical evidence
  • Precautions for patients with cardiac disease, hypertension, hypoxemia, liver disease, renal impairment, and other conditions

Pharmacology

  • Structurally differs from Theophylline due to the presence of a dioxolane group in position 7
  • Selective inhibitor of phosphodiesterase 4
  • Decreased affinities toward adenosine A1 and A2 receptors
  • Reported inhibition of platelet activating factor (PAF) and leukotriene production

Dosage & Administration

  • 200 mg tablet for elderly, two or three times daily
  • 400 mg tablet for adults, two or three times daily
  • Syrup or tablet for children based on age and body weight
  • Special release (SR) tablet for specific dosage requirements
