Indications
- Hypertension
- Renal Protection in Type-2 Diabetic Patients with Proteinuria
Pharmacology
- Non-peptide orally active angiotensin II receptor blocker
- Reduces vasoconstriction and the release of aldosterone
Dosage & Administration
- Usual starting and maintenance dose of 50mg once daily
- Total daily dose ranges from 25mg to 100mg
- Dosing adjustment for patients with intravascular volume-depletion or over 75 years
Interaction
- Reduction in active metabolite levels with Rifampicin and fluconazole
- Potentiation of antihypertensive effects with hydrochlorothiazide
- Possible serum potassium increases with certain diuretics or supplements
Contraindications
- Pregnant women
- Hypersensitivity to any component
- Concomitant Aliskiren use in patients with diabetes
Side Effects
- Mild and transient side effects
