Indications

  • Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain

Description

  • Belongs to the pyrrolo-pyrrole group of NSAID drugs
  • Chemical name: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
  • Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
  • Biological activity associated with the S-form
  • Highly protein bound and largely metabolized in the liver

Pharmacology

  • Potent analgesic of the NSAIDs
  • Inhibits the cyclooxygenase enzyme system
  • Demonstrates minimal anti-inflammatory effect at its analgesic dose

Dosage & Administration

  • Recommended tablet dose: 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use (up to 7 days)
  • Injection may be used as single or multiple doses for moderately severe, acute pain
  • Different dosing recommendations for patients of different ages and conditions
  • Recommended dose for eye drops: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily

Interaction

  • Other NSAIDs or aspirin increase Temoket's side effects
  • Anti-coagulants enhance anti-coagulant effect
  • Beta Blockers reduce the anti-hypertensive effect
  • ACE Inhibitors increase the risk of renal impairment
  • Methotrexate enhances the toxicity of methotrexate

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
  • Not for use in children under 16 years of age
  • Contraindicated as prophylactic analgesic before surgery

  • Discontinue use and monitor patients with evidence of corneal epithelial breakdown
