Indications

Pharmacology
- Triazole antifungal agent
- Inhibitor of fungal cytochrome P-450 dependent enzymes
- Responsible for the synthesis of ergosterol in fungal cell membrane
Dosage & Administration
- Specific dosage for adults and children based on condition
- Oral and IV administration for different conditions
- Dosage adjustments for elderly patients and those with renal impairment
Interaction
- Interaction with warfarin, sulphonyl ureas, hydrochlorothiazide, phenytoin, rifampicin, combined oral contraceptives, cyclosporin, theophylline
- Effects on drug absorption when co-administered with food, cimetidine, antacids, or following total body irradiation
- Increased plasma concentrations of certain drugs
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Fluconazole or related triazole compounds
Side Effects
- Common gastrointestinal symptoms
- Rarely encountered adverse events such as rash (Incidence less than 1%)
- Rare cases of anaphylaxis
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Adverse fetal effects seen in animals at high dose levels associated with maternal toxicity
- Not recommended for use in pregnancy or in women of childbearing potential unless adequate contraception is employed
Precautions & Warnings
- Observation of hepatic, renal, and haematological function during treatment
- Assessment of risk-benefit ratio in patients with liver enzyme elevation
- Rare development of severe cutaneous reactions
- Discontinuation in case of rash or development of specific skin conditions
- Not recommended for use during lactation

- Dose adjustments for the elderly and patients with renal impairment
Overdose Effects
- Supportive and symptomatic treatment
- Gastric lavage if necessary
