Indications
- Symptomatic relief of Osteoarthritis (OA)
- Symptomatic relief of Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)
- Symptomatic relief of Ankylosing spondylitis
- Symptomatic relief of acute gouty arthritis
- Short-term treatment of moderate pain associated with dental surgery
Pharmacology
- Potent, orally active cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) specific inhibitor
- Inhibition of COX-2 decreases clinical signs and symptoms with decreased potential for gastrointestinal (GI) toxicity and effects on platelet aggregation
- Selective inhibition of COX-2 by etoricoxib decreases pain, inflammation, and fever
Dosage and Administration
- Recommended doses for different conditions (e.g., 30mg once daily for Osteoarthritis, 90mg once daily for Rheumatoid arthritis and Ankylosing spondylitis, 120mg once daily for acute gouty arthritis)
Interactions
- Interaction with oral anticoagulants
- Interaction with Diuretics, ACE inhibitors and Angiotensin II Antagonists
- Interaction with Acetylsalicylic Acid
- Interaction with Ciclosporin and Tacrolimus
- Interaction with Lithium
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
- Active peptic ulceration or active GI bleeding
- Patients with allergic-type reactions after taking acetylsalicylic acid or NSAIDs
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Severe hepatic dysfunction
- Estimated renal creatinine clearance below 30 ml/min
- Children and adolescents under 16 years of age
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Congestive heart failure
- Hypertension
- Ischaemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, and/or cerebrovascular disease

Precautions & Warnings
- Caution with patients at risk of developing GI complications with NSAIDs
- Caution with patients at significant risk factors for cardiovascular events
- Potential reduction in prostaglandin formation and renal blood flow leading to impaired renal function
- Caution in patients with a history of cardiac failure, left ventricular dysfunction, or hypertension
- Monitoring of renal and liver function
- Discontinuation at the first appearance of hypersensitivity signs
- Potential masking of fever and other signs of inflammation
- Caution when co-administering with warfarin or other oral anticoagulants
Overdose Effects
- Administration of single and multiple doses did not result in significant toxicity
- Usual supportive measures recommended in case of overdose
