Indications

  • Symptomatic relief of Osteoarthritis (OA)
  • Symptomatic relief of Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)
  • Symptomatic relief of Ankylosing spondylitis
  • Symptomatic relief of acute gouty arthritis
  • Short-term treatment of moderate pain associated with dental surgery

Pharmacology

  • Potent, orally active cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) specific inhibitor
  • Inhibition of COX-2 decreases clinical signs and symptoms with decreased potential for gastrointestinal (GI) toxicity and effects on platelet aggregation
  • Selective inhibition of COX-2 by etoricoxib decreases pain, inflammation, and fever

Dosage and Administration

  • Recommended doses for different conditions (e.g., 30mg once daily for Osteoarthritis, 90mg once daily for Rheumatoid arthritis and Ankylosing spondylitis, 120mg once daily for acute gouty arthritis)

Interactions

  • Interaction with oral anticoagulants
  • Interaction with Diuretics, ACE inhibitors and Angiotensin II Antagonists

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients

  • Estimated renal creatinine clearance below 30 ml/min
  • Children and adolescents under 16 years of age
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Hypertension
  • Ischaemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, and/or cerebrovascular disease

Precautions & Warnings

  • Caution with patients at risk of developing GI complications with NSAIDs
  • Caution with patients at significant risk factors for cardiovascular events
  • Potential reduction in prostaglandin formation and renal blood flow leading to impaired renal function
  • Caution in patients with a history of cardiac failure, left ventricular dysfunction, or hypertension
  • Monitoring of renal and liver function
  • Discontinuation at the first appearance of hypersensitivity signs
  • Potential masking of fever and other signs of inflammation
  • Caution when co-administering with warfarin or other oral anticoagulants

Overdose Effects

  • Administration of single and multiple doses did not result in significant toxicity
  • Usual supportive measures recommended in case of overdose
