Pharmacology

Interaction

  • Interactions with warfarin, sulphonyl ureas, hydrochlorothiazide, phenytoin, rifampicin, oral contraceptives, cyclosporin, food, cemetidine, antacids, theophylline, other medications

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to Fluconazole or related triazole compounds

Side Effects

  • Common side effects: nausea, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, flatulence
  • Rare adverse events: rash, anaphylaxis

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Adverse fetal effects in animals at high dose levels
  • Not recommended for use during pregnancy or in women of childbearing potential without adequate contraception

Precautions & Warnings

  • Observation of hepatic, renal, hematological, and biochemical function tests
  • Assessment of risk-benefit ratio in patients with significant rise of liver enzymes
  • Rare development of exfoliative cutaneous reactions
  • Discontinue therapy if rash develops
  • Not recommended for use during lactation
  • Unlikely to impair ability to drive or use machinery

Use in Special Populations

  • Normal dose for elderly patients without evidence of renal impairment
  • Dosage adjustments for patients with renal impairment
  • Dosage intervals and daily dosage modification based on creatinine clearance

Overdose Effects

  • Supportive measures and symptomatic treatment
  • Forced volume diuresis may increase elimination rate
  • Haemodialysis decreases plasma levels
