Description

Mefin tablets are indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults and children from 10 years of age and adolescents. It is a biguanide type oral antihyperglycemic drug that helps in the management of diabetes by lowering both basal and postprandial plasma glucose.

Tablet

Dosage & Administration

  • Usual starting dose for adults: 500 mg twice a day or 850 mg once a day, given with meals
  • Maximum daily dose: 2550 mg per day for adults
  • Usual starting dose for children: 500 mg twice a day, given with meals
  • Metformin extended release tablet: Swallow whole, never crush, cut or chew

Interaction

  • Enhanced absorption with Nifedipine
  • Potential interaction with cationic drugs
  • Certain drugs may lead to loss of glycemic control

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients
  • Severe renal failure (GFR < 30 mL/min)
  • Acute metabolic acidosis
  • Acute conditions with potential to alter renal function
