Dosage & Administration
- Children 3 to 7 years: ½ effervescent tablet daily

- Potentially hazardous interactions with Digoxin, tetracycline, furosemide, pentagastrin
- Potentially hazardous interactions with Aminophylline, bleomycin, erythromycin, lactobionate, nafcillin
- Potentially hazardous interactions with Nitrofurantoin, conjugated estrogens, salfafurazole, diethanolamine, chloramphenicol
- Potentially useful interactions with Vitamin-D, oxytocin, prostaglandins
- Vitamin-C enhances iron absorption
Contraindications
- Hypercalcemia
- Severe hypercalciuria
- Severe renal failure
- Hyperoxaluria
- Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency
- Iron overload
- Larger doses may lead to gastrointestinal tract upset
Side Effects
- Mild gastrointestinal disturbances (bloating, diarrhea)
- Prolonged treatment with high doses may promote urinary tract calculi formation
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Oral calcium studies show no increase in teratogenic hazard to the fetus
- Supplemental calcium excreted in breast milk unlikely to produce adverse effects on the neonate
- Vitamin C safe during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Monitoring of calcium excretion in urine for patients with mild hypercalciuria, impaired renal function, or history of urinary concrements
- High doses of vitamin-D to be avoided during treatment
- Citrate salts reported to increase aluminum absorption
