Composition
- Calcium Carbonate USP 1250 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 500 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 200 IU
- Calcium Carbonate USP 1500 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 400 IU
- Calcium Carbonate (Coral source) USP 1500 mg equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 400 IU as Cholecalciferol USP
Pharmacology

Dosage & Administration
One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water or as directed by physician
Interaction
Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary excretion of calcium; monitor serum calcium. Systemic corticosteroids reduce calcium absorption; consider increasing calcium dose. Simultaneous treatment with ion exchange resins or laxatives may reduce vitamin D absorption. Calcium carbonate may interfere with tetracycline absorption. Hypercalcaemia may increase cardiac glycosides toxicity. Administer Coralben D at least three hours before bisphosphonate or sodium fluoride intake. Oxalic acid and phytic acid may inhibit calcium absorption.
Contraindications
- Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
- Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
- Hypersensitivity to the component
- Severe renal insufficiencies
- Concomitant digoxin therapy

- Orally administered Calcium Carbonate may be irritating to GI tract
- May cause constipation
- Rarely produces hypercalcemia

Pregnancy & Lactation
Daily intake should not exceed 1500 mg calcium and 600 IU cholecalciferol. Avoid overdoses due to adverse effects on the developing foetus. No indications of vitamin D teratogenicity in humans. Consideration should be given for breastfeeding mothers.
Precautions & Warnings
- Follow serum calcium levels during long-term treatment
- Monitor renal function, especially in elderly patients, cardiac glycosides or diuretics users
- Use caution in patients with impairment of renal function
- Consider risk of soft tissue calcification
- Dose adjustment for sarcoidosis patients and immobilised patients with osteoporosis
- Consider when prescribing other drugs containing vitamin D
Overdose Effects
Can lead to hypervitaminosis D and hypercalcaemia. Symptoms may include anorexia, thirst, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, mental disturbances, polydipsia, polyuria, bone pain, nephrocalcinosis, nephrolithiasis, cardiac arrhythmias, coma, and death. Treatment includes discontinuing calcium and other associated medications, rehydration, and monitoring.
