Pharmacology
Broad spectrum bactericidal activity against gram-positive & gram-negative bacteria and some protozoa

Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to trimethoprim or sulphonamides
- Megaloblastic anaemia due to folate deficiency
- Liver parenchymal damage
- Blood dyscrasia
- Severe renal insufficiency
- Glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency

Pregnancy & Lactation
Sulphonamides pass the placenta and are excreted in the breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Risk of macrocytic anaemia
- Interference with conversion of Folic acid into Folinic acid
- Potential potentiation of action of sulphonylurea in diabetic patients
