Indications
- Treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD)
Pharmacology
- Irreversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase
- Increases extracellular levels of dopamine in the striatum
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dose of 1 mg orally once daily
- Initial dose of 0.5 mg once daily for patients taking levodopa
Contraindications
- Contraindicated for use with meperidine, tramadol, methadone, propoxyphene, and MAO inhibitors
- Risk of serotonin syndrome
