Indications
- Peptic ulcer diseases
- Gastroesophageal reflux diseases
- Ulcer induced by NSAIDs
- Eradication of Helicobacter pylori (in combination with antibiotics)
- Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
Pharmacology
- Proton pump inhibitor
- Suppresses final step in gastric acid production
- Covalently binds to H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system
Dosage & Administration
- Oral administration
- Dosages for various conditions like benign gastric ulcer, GERD, duodenal ulcer, NSAID-associated ulcer, Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
- IV injection dosages for duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer, prevention of rebleeding, prophylaxis of acid aspiration, long-term management of Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
Interaction
No significant drug interactions observed in clinical studies
Contraindications
Pantoprazole contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any components of the formulation
Side Effects
- Well-tolerated in short-term and long-term treatment
- Common side effects: headache, diarrhea
- Rare side effects: abdominal pain, flatulence, rash, insomnia, hyperglycemia
Pregnancy & Lactation
- US FDA Pregnancy Category B
- No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
- Excreted in human milk, decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or the drug
Precautions & Warnings
- Tablet should not be split, chewed, or crushed
- Long-term therapy may lead to malabsorption of cyanocobalamin
- May increase risk of osteoporosis related disorders

- No known symptoms of overdosage in humans
- Highly protein-bound, not readily dialyzable
- Symptomatic and supportive management recommended

Reconstitution
- IV injection administered only intravenously
- Solution obtained by reconstitution with 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection
- Reconstituted solution stored at room temperature for a maximum of 4 hours
- IV infusion administered over approximately 15 minutes
- Admixed solution stored at room temperature and used within 24 hours
